IBikeLondon Ride East(er)
We hope everyone had a great Easter! Before scoffing all your chocolate eggs in record time on Sunday, you may have joined our Ride East(er) on Saturday. The ride attracted 100 cyclists who met at 10.30am in front of the iconic St Paul’s Cathedral. After a quick introduction by John, our group leader, with his daughter on his shoulders, we jumped on our bikes and started cycling.
We stopped off at the Guildhall en route and then cycled on through the growing City to the Tower of London and Tower Bridge, where we had to walk for few minutes among the flow of tourists.
Once this busy part was achieved, the rest of the route was mostly car free or on very quiet roads. Cycling through St Katherine’s Dock and into the historical cobbled streets of Wapping towards Shadwell Basin was lovely. After taking in the views of Canary Wharf, we crossed the Isle of Dogs until we reached the Greenwich foot tunnel. Fortunately for us the new lift is now completed, which allowed us to go down and up to the circular tunnel – for the bravest (or questionably craziest) cyclists the alternative way was a series of 200 steps!
Once on the other side of the river we cycled along the Thames path in Deptford and through the picturesque Russia Dock Woodland in Rotherhithe before reaching our end point in Bermondsey. We settled in the warmth of the Angel pub for a well-earned pints and chips.
